Excerpt taken from GAA Media release 9/1/09
In October 2008, the Leaning Tower of Gingin won the prestigious Sorel Award
awarded by the Galvanizers Association of Australia. The award was unique in that it was the first time a group of galvanizers from a State Chapter had put in a joint submission and won the award.
Barry Bebb - Meneghello Galvanizers, Paul Edmondson - Hartway Galvanizers, Geoff Barr - Western Galvanizers, Bernie Hart - Hartway Galvanizers
The judges in particular noted the engineering, cooperation, sustainability and philanthropic efforts of the members of the WA State Chapter of the Galvanizers Association of Australia in working on the project.
Corrosion control has a big part to play in making sure that assets provide a satisfactory return on their investment to the community. Durability and low maintenance mean that financial reserves are not expended unnecessarily and to the detriment of future investment. Also, durability is a key component of sustainability – the longer an asset lasts, then the less natural resources and energy are required to replace it.
